Bobcaygeon Beach Park

A short walk along the boardwalk from the locks takes you to the most popular beach in Bobcaygeon. The lake here is walk-in shallow, and perfect for children. Like all public swimming areas in Kawartha Lakes, the water quality is tested weekly . A cordoned swimming area adds another layer of safety.

In this park-like setting, grassy areas surround a large sandy beach that’s groomed daily. Several benches and picnic tables are available for public use.

The beach area adjoins larger park grounds with a covered picnic area available for rental.

Tommy Anderson Park

Here you’ll find a comfortable picnic shelter and playground as well as and numerous sporting amenities, including horseshoe pits, basketball and tennis courts, a skateboard park, baseball field, and a soccer pitch.

Bobcaygeon Wilderness Park

This 8-acre lot of mature forest was made possible through generous donations from supporters, Ontario Trillium Foundation, and the City of Kawartha Lakes, as well as a significant amount of assistance from individuals and organizations. Hard-working volunteers cleared the lot of debris and Wilderness Park was officially opened in the spring of 2014.

The park is open to hiking, cycling, cross country skiing, and nature interpretation, with trails that are built to best-practice standards and accessible to all, including those who are physically challenged.

Gamiing Nature Centre

On the shores of Rice Lake you’ll find nature trails to explore across Gamiing’s 100-acre property, in addition to regular educational events and hands-on interpretive activities.

Big (Boyd/Chiminis) Island

Big Island (also known as Boyd or Chiminis Island) is an 1,100-acre island owned by the Kawartha Land Trust and open to the public. The pristine and scenic shoreline is ideal for paddling along and fishing is good. You can also put your canoe or kayak ashore and explore the 8 km of marked hiking trails, keeping an eye out for the thousands of species living in the Island’s forests and meadows. The Back Channel is on the east side of the island and has calmer water and protection from the wind, making it a favourite for houseboat mooring. Please tread lightly.

Trent-Severn Waterway Lock 32

Lock 32 enjoys a prime location in the centre of Bobcaygeon. Steps from attractions like Bigley’s Shoes & Clothing and the Boyd Heritage Museum, and overnight mooring for boaters, this is one of the busiest and oldest locks along the Trent-Severn Waterway. It also has a shady picnic area where you can watch the world go by.

Bobcaygeon Farmers Market

Farm-fresh vegetables abound at the Bobcaygeon Farmers’ Market, along with cheese, baked goods, artisan crafts, and much more.

Boyd Heritage Museum

Uncover the village’s roots as a hub of the lumber industry at the Boyd Museum. In the 19th century Bobcaygeon was home to one of the largest and most sophisticated logging operations in Upper Canada. The Boyd Museum focuses on Mossom Boyd, the so-called “Lumber King of the Trent Valley,” and the empire he and his descendants built. This tour takes place in the 1889 building which used to house the Boyd Lumber Co.

Lakeview Arts Barn/Globus Theatre

The Lakeview Arts Barn has seen some changes in its time, having evolved from a cattle barn to a dance hall to its current incarnation as a black box theatre. These days Globus Theatre uses the LAB as its base of operations, staging professional plays and concerts in the Bobcaygeon area. Programming includes a mix of original scripts and newly imagined classics.

Lock 32—Park Trent Severn

Bobcaygeon’s Lock 32 Park is located in the heart of the village, with green space on either side of the swing bridge. You can relax on a bench and watch the busy Trent Severn Waterway in action. Boats of all kinds, and plenty of them. And Bobcaygeon is called the Houseboat Capital of Canada for good reason. This park has shady, grassy areas and picnic tables, as well as a washroom provided by TSW. You’re close to shops and restaurants and also to the town’s newest tourist attraction, bikeshare stations where you can rent bikes using an app on your smartphone. Summer brings free outdoor music concerts every Thursday evening to the pavilion, you just bring your own lawn chair and enjoy. Lock 32 Park is lively in the summer and slows down, but remains a beautiful destination, in every season.
