TOP THINGS TO DO

ADAM AND EVE ROCKS

The Adam and Eve rocks are a unique and charming Buckhorn attraction. A little way down Adam & Eve Road, on the north side, you will see two large glacial rocks. Folklore has it that if a young couple can hold hands and each touch one of the rocks, their lives will be blessed.

KAWARTHA HIGHLANDS PROVINCIAL PARK

As the largest park in Southern Ontario after Algonquin, Kawartha Highlands offers the outdoor explorer acres of pristine wilderness. As a canoe access park, it’s possible to reach sites a short distance from the launch, or head deeper to enjoy the many interior lakes.

KAWARTHA COUNTRY WINES

Kawartha Country Wines, a family-owned winery just outside town, boasts an extensive collection of fruit wines, cider, vinegar, and preserves. The wines pair beautifully with wood-fired pizza, also made in house. The sampling bar is complimentary, but be sure to inquire about tours and tastings too.

PETROGLYPHS PROVINCIAL PARK

Learn about and appreciate the deep significance of Ontario’s largest collection of ancient First Nations petroglyphs. The rock carvings are profoundly powerful, but a series of peaceful walking trails on site make this park all the more essential.

Gannon’s Narrows Conservation Area

Explore the great outdoors at Gannon’s Narrows Conservation Area, situated just north of Ennismore. Go on exciting hikes and try your luck at fishing in this beautiful natural spot. When you arrive, you’ll see a parking area by the road and signs that mark the start of the trails. It’s a perfect place to enjoy the beauty of nature!

Spend a summer day relaxing and playing on Sandy Beach with friends and family. Open 7AM to 10PM.

Fishing and Boating

Both Lower Buckhorn Lake and Upper Buckhorn Lake are exceptionally clear. These lakes feature rocky Canadian Shield shorelines and they are speckled with many rocky islands. Boating through here is a quintessentially Canadian experience, almost as though you’re immersed in a Group of Seven painting.

The variety of rock, islands, and weed beds creates terrific habitats for many kinds of fish, particularly Large and Smallmouth Bass, Walleye, Muskie, Bluegill, Perch, Crappy, and Carp. 

John Earle Chase Memorial Park

John Earle Chase Memorial Park offers 7.4 kilometres of trail across three loops—one passes through stands of mature maple on its way to the shores of Pigeon Lake, another skirts a wetland, and a third opens onto high grassy fields that look out across the entire 400 acres.

Kawartha Highlands Mississauga River Loop

The second-largest park in southern Ontario after Algonquin, Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park offers more than 100 backcountry campsites and maintains a radio-free camping zone throughout the park. A great way to experience the park is to walk the Mississauga River Loop, a 1.6km trail that runs alongs the scenic Mississauga.

Selwyn Beach Conservation Area

This conservation area on the northeast shore of Chemong Lake is best known for its excellent swimming, provided by a gently sloping sandy beach. It also offers a boat launch and docking facility, a large picnic shelter, group camping area, and hiking trails.

Trent-Severn Waterway Lock 31

As one of the busiest locks of the Trent-Severn Waterway, there is never a dull moment at Lock 31! You’ll find washrooms, a water refill station, a picnic area, essentials like ice and firewood, and friendly Parks Canada staff onsite. Restaurants, shops, parks, and attractions are just a short walk away.

Whetung Ojibwa Centre

Celebrating its 50th year in 2026, the family-owned and operated Whetung Ojibwa Centre offers a spectacular collection of Indigenous crafts as well as fine art, jewelry, moccasins, leather work, sculptures, and much more from artisans in Curve Lake First Nation and across Canada. Beyond the central gift shop lies a museum, featuring the Whetungs’ private collection, and a high-ceilinged art gallery.
